`Runners Head Out To UMKC For A Three Game Series

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After coming off another hard-fought battle against the top team in the Western Athletic Conference, CSU Bakersfield softball are ready to get back into action and dust off their cleats for another WAC opponent. This weekend the team will travel to Kansas City to take on the Kangaroos for a three-game series.
 
UMKC (10-31, 0-9 WAC) will welcome the `Runners after coming off a few tough series in the Western Athletic Conference. However, the Roos did take a small turned off events in the final game against Utah Valley losing 6-10. Prior to their six-run game the team was struggling to earn runs and had only scored 10 runs in the last eight WAC games. Senior Kelsey Goodwin is providing the Roos consistency as she is hitting .290 with six doubles and 19 RBI's.
 
CSUB (5-31, 2-7 WAC) will look to hold UMKC to stay winless as last week was a wakeup call for the `Runners. Bakersfield came close to winning its first game in the Seattle U series after going 10 innings to only lose by a controversial call at home. Leading the team in batting average is senior Julea Cavazos (.333) who is also on pace to reset the CSUB Division I career record for on base percentage with teammate Kaylynn Burt, whom just last weekend reset the career record for most stolen bases.
 
Due to impending weather, the weekend series has been adjusted to ensure the games are completed. The `Runners and Roos will play a doubleheader on Friday, Apr. 20. First pitch on Friday is now scheduled for 2 p.m. (PT). The `Runners and Roos will wrap up the series on Saturday with a single game starting at 11 a.m. (PT) .
