Softball Drops Last Two At The Gaucho Classic II

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield softball team continued at the Gaucho Classic II on Sunday with the Roadrunners playing UC Santa Barbara and then Saint Mary's in game two.

Game 1

UCSB got out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning after two RBI singles. The Gauchos' catcher earned the first RBI of the inning after she was hit by a pitch. A RBI off a walk-in run followed by a two-RBI single to left center and a run scored off a wild pitch extended UC Santa Barbara's lead 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth. A RBI single to center field in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted the Gauchos 8-0 over the `Runners.

Game 2

In the second game, Bakersfield went to extra innings to decide a game-winner. Saint Mary's jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after a two-RBI homerun over right center. The Gaels found themselves in a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning after a RBI singled to left center.

The `Runners responded in the top of the fourth and fifth innings with runs to knot the score at 3-3. Chris Hipa's triple to center field set up Ariana Acedo's RBI single to left center that brought Hipa to home plate. An error by the Gaucho's shortstop in the fifth allowed Acedo to reach, while Burt and Cavazos each scored.

A RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the ninth inning would prove to be the game-winner in the matchup.

Next weekend, the `Runners (3-24) will open conference play at home with a three-game series against Grand Canyon at the Roadrunner Softball Complex. First pitch is slated for Friday, Mar. 30 at 2 p.m.
