CSUB To Play Its Home Opener For A Three-Game Series Against USD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield softball team is set to play its home opener this weekend as the team will welcome the University of San Diego to the Roadrunner Softball Complex on Saturday, Mar. 3, to begin a three-game series. The Roadrunners and the Toreros are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday followed by ceremony to celebrate the `Runners brand new dugouts and bullpens.
 
"Each week I have seen this team grow together," said Crissy Buck-Ziegler, head coach of CSUB's softball team. "Their drive and determination to get us a couple of wins this weekend is remarkable."

Two weekends ago, the 'Runners were scheduled to play its home opener against Sacramento State but due to rain they were canceled. This weekend, CSUB are hopeful that sunshine will be in its favor to finally play in the comfort its own field after coming off a rough five-game tournament at Stanford. The team went 0-5 but got close in two games against Wagner College.  
 
On the season, Julea Cavazos leads the `Runners with a .356 batting average while junior Chris Hipa leads with eight RBI's after earning three this past weekend.
 
The Toreros will match up with Bakersfield for the second time this season with a current record of 14-13. The University of San Diego are coming off the Wildcat Invitational where they finished 3-2 in Arizona. Freshman pitcher Hannah Boos earned WCC pitcher of the week after coming off a high-powered weekend. At the tournament, Boos went 2-0 with a 0.68 ERA in 10 innings and allowed just one run on five hits while adding 10 strikeouts.
 
Saturday's first pitch of the day is scheduled at 12 p.m. with a doubleheader to follow. After the doubleheader there will be a ceremony opened to the public to celebrate the first use of the `Runners brand new dugouts and bullpen. All will take place at the Roadrunner Softball Complex. CSUB will wrap up the three-game series at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Live stats will be available with the attached links on the schedule page.
