BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield softball team must be saying FINALLY! The 'Runners will open the season in San Diego at the three day USD Tournament from Feb. 9-11. CSUB will play Campbell twice and host San Diego three times over the three day period.
The `Runners are coming off a sixth place finish in the Western Athletic Conference and a 12-33 record overall.
But the `Runners have a couple building blocks to build around. CSUB junior
Chris Hipa has been voted on to the Preseason All-WAC Team. Hipa, from Aiea, Hawaii, was voted First Team All-WAC in 2017 after ranking in the Top 10 in WAC play in batting average (.442), slugging percentage, on-base percentage, hits, doubles and assists.
Senior outfielder
Kaylynn Burt, was named to the Second Team All-WAC after hitting .353 during conference play her junior season and also led the team with a .430 on-base percentage. Plus, Burt is clutch. During the WAC Tournament, the senior hit .500, slugged 1.250% with six runs scored, eight RBI and two home runs.
The `Runners will open WAC play at home on Mar. 30 against defending conference regular season champion Grand Canyon and will finish conference play and the regular season at home against Utah Valley on Apr. 28. The WAC Tournament will be held in Las Cruces, NM from May 9-12.
