`Runners To Play In The Bulldog Classic This Weekend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield softball team will be heading out to its second tournament of the season in just a short drive up highway 99. The Roadrunners will travel to Fresno State for the Bulldog Classic, matching up with four California teams starting on Feb. 16 and running through Feb. 18.

"With the youth of our team, we are constantly improving on our team's fight and cohesiveness," said head softball coach, Crissy Buck-Ziegler. "I like how they worked this week in practice and I feel that this weekend can be another positive growing experience for our team."

The `Runners are coming off the San Diego Tournament held last weekend, ending 0-5 in the tournament. Despite the losses, the Bakersfield team had three fairly competitive games, which should give the team high hopes for the rest of the season. Just in the first day against Campbell, CSUB had three runs on four hits with a double steal in the second inning and ended the game with four steals total. Bakersfield would end that with a comeback against San Diego that came up just short.

This weekend CSUB will play against Pacific, Fresno State, UC Davis, and Saint Mary's. Three out of the four teams the `Runners will face are coming to the Bulldog Classic from the well-known Kajikawa Tournament. Fresno State and UC Davis finished with a 3-2 record while Saint Mary's went 0-6. The Tigers played next door at the Grand Canyon Kickoff, also going 3-2 in their first tournament of the season.

The `Runners will kick off the tournament in Fresno playing Pacific at 10 a.m. followed by Fresno State and 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The rest of the softball schedule can be found on CSUB Softball schedule page with links for live video and stats to follow along.
