SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield softball team continued its season-opening, five-game tournament in San Diego on Saturday with another doubleheader against Campbell and San Diego.

In the first game of the day, the `Runners fell behind Campbell and were unable to catch up. Against San Diego, Bakersfield jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but a big third inning led the Toreros to a run-rule victory over the `Runners.

Game 1

Campbell would jump on top of the Roadrunners early scoring four runs in the first inning, but all the runs were unearned due to two fielding errors by CSUB. Summer Evans would start for the `Runners for the third consecutive game. The senior would go two innings, but only allowed those four unearned runs to limit the damage to keep CSUB within striking distance.

CSUB's Daryn Hitzel would relieve Evans to start the third and the freshman would go one inning, allowing two runs on three hits as the Camels extended their lead to 6-1 heading to the bottom of the third. CSUB would cut into the Camels' lead in the bottom half of the inning. Kaylynn Burt would reach on a bunt single and Julea Cavazos would drive her in with an RBI single to get the 'Runners on the board.

Kaycee Olson would come in relief of Hitzel to start the fourth and she would keep the 'Runners in the game. Olson would pitch four innings, allow five hits, one unearned run and she also struck out three to lower her ERA to 1.17 to start the season. The `Runners would get an RBI single from Paige Johnson and senior Maddi Clark would groundout to score Cavazos as the `Runners cut the Camels lead to 6-3 after five.

The `Runners would get a rally going in the sixth. CSUB's Halle Neher would draw a leadoff walk and with one out, Burt would triple to drive in Neher and the 'Runners made it 7-4 heading to the final frame. CSUB would get the first two on in the bottom of the seventh, but could not get anyone across as the 'Runners would fall 7-4. Burt and Johnson would both have two hits and an RBI in a losing cause.

Game 2

The `Runners enjoyed their first lead of the young season sophomore Karah Wiseman scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Gabrielle Fua to put CSUB up in the second inning. In the third, Burt led off with her second triple of the day and crossed the plate on Cavazos' sac fly to give the `Runners a 2-0 lead.

The bottom of the third inning would prove to be a dagger for the `Runners as San Diego scored eight runs on eight hits and two errors. In the fourth, the Toreros added two more runs to take a 10-2 lead.
