BAKERSFIELD, Cali. – CSU Bakersfield's women's basketball team improved its record 11-10, 5-2 WAC after defeating Chicago State. The Roadrunners put together a strong offensive performance while forcing 25 turnovers to take a 27 point victory, 63-36 in Chicago.

The `Runners came out firing shots to take a 7-0 lead before the first media timeout. The Cougars talked it out and answered back with scoring 20 points in the first quarter to cut Bakersfield's lead by one. Into the second and CSU takes its first lead of the night with an early jumper. The Cougars got the `Runners fired up as CSUB would go on a 12-2 run to end the second period 34-24.

Bakersfield opened up the third period with two solid points from the charity line. The Cougars managed to find the net to add three points in the period but CSUB stayed dominant and went on another large run (20-3). CSUB started the fourth period with such a significant lead but added six points while holding CSU to just five points in the fourth to seal the victory.

Freshman Vanessa Austin led all players with 12 points and five rebounds. Redshirt Jazmine Johnson finished the contest with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. CSUB blocked eight Chicago State shots including a pair of blocks from a trio of `Runners.

As a team, the `Runners out rebounded the Cougars 37-31. Bakersfield outscored CSU 36-12 in the paint and 25-9 off of turnovers. The defensive efforts led the `Runners to the 27 point victory.

The `Runners will close out the weekend with one more road game before returning home. Bakersfield will meet up with UMKC for a revenge match up on Feb. 3 for an early Saturday afternoon game. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT). Follow along by finding the links on the women's schedule page.
