Box Score SEATTLE – The CSU Bakersfield volleyball team suffered a defeat in its regular-season finale on Saturday. The Roadrunners traveled to face Seattle U and came up short in a four-set loss (25-23, 13-25, 18-25, 20-25) on the road.

From a 10-10 tie in the first set, the `Runners went on a 7-2 run to gain some breathing team on the host Redhawks. Seattle U would not go down without a fight and tied the match at 20-20. CSUB finished off the opening game with a kill by senior Briannah Mariner to take a 25-23 victory.

The second set started out tight as well, but SU went on a 10-3 run to go ahead 20-10. The Redhawks finished strong, taking the game 25-13 while tying the match at one set apiece. After posting a .235 attack percentage in the opening set, CSUB struggled with a .037 clip in the second game.

In Set 3, the `Runners trailed by three points a most of the way including at 17-14. CSUB drew as close as two points at 18-16, but the Redhawks won seven of the final nine points to take the third game, 25-18.

The `Runners jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but the Redhawks answered back to go ahead 13-8. CSUB responded with a four-point run of its own, but SU continued to push ahead. The two teams traded points to the end of the set, but the Redhawks were able to finish off the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-1.

For the second-straight game, sophomore Desiree Sukhov recorded a double-double. Saturday's performance of 13 kills and 14 digs was the team-best 10th double-double of the season for the native of Murrieta, Calif. Mattison DeGarmo, a senior middle blocker, registered 12 kills and four blocks in Seattle.

With the loss, CSUB finished the regular season with a 14-15 record (7-9 WAC). While the `Runners struggled on the road this year, CSUB holds a 10-2 record in the Icardo Center, resetting the school's Division I record for most home wins in a year.

Next week, CSUB will host the Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament with an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament on the line. The three-day tourney is scheduled for Nov. 22-24 in the Icardo Center and the `Runners need the support of the Bakersfield community to make a run. CSUB is the defending WAC Tournament Champion and won the title the last time the `Runners hosted in 2014. Tickets are already on sale and more information about tickets and the tournament can be found here.
