Nickell Ranked Sixteenth by The Open Mat

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Open Mat released its preseason NCAA Division I Wrestling rankings on Monday and CSU Bakersfield senior Sean Nickell was ranked 16^th in the 133-pound weight class.

Expectations will be high for the two-time NCAA qualifier as he was also ranked 12^th by Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine to start the season. The redshirt senior finished last season with a 24-12 record capped by an upset of No. 9 Dennis Gustafson of Virginia Tech at the NCAA Championships.

Nickell is the likely preseason favorite to win his second Pac-12 title as no other wrestler in the conference is ranked in either poll. Nickell won the league as a redshirt sophomore before finishing in third last season. He has also won the Roadrunner Open for two consecutive seasons.

The Roadrunners open the schedule on October 19 with the Blue-Gold Dual at 7:00 p.m.
