Bakersfield Slips In Weekend Closer With UTRGV



BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team tallied their third conference loss on Sunday in a 3-1 decision against UT Rio Grande Valley at Main Soccer Field. The Vaqueros improved to 9-5-1, 3-1 WAC while the Roadrunners fell 4-9-0, 1-3 WAC.
 
Bakersfield opened scoring in the eighth minute of the contest when Sabrina Delgado connected with the back of the net for her second goal of the season, 14th in her career. Emily Zapata recorded the equalizer at the 27:12 minute mark that would hold through the first half. 
 
UTRGV outshot the Roadrunners 9-3 in the first half despite the 1-1 score. Redshirt sophomore keeper Cass Tymchen had a game-high three saves at the half.
 
The score remained tied at 1-1 for most of the second half until Jada MacLean lifted the Vaqueros 2-1 in the 83rd minute. Gina Steiner made the insurance goal three minutes later in the 86th minute for the final 3-1 score.
 
Bakersfield had multiple plays at the box that just didn't bounce their way. CSUB took 10 shots, four on frame, in the second period looking to take the lead or equalize. After putting up just three shots in the first half, the Roadrunners more than tripled their attempts in the second.
 
Delgado had a team-best four shots while Tymchen had a game and career-high seven saves in the match.
 
UP NEXT
CSU Bakersfield women's soccer will be back on the pitch next week when they travel to Orem, Utah for a matchup against defending Western Athletic Conference tournament champions Utah Valley. The contest is set to start at 7 p.m. (MT).
