Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

`Runners Shutout by Roos

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men's soccer team dominated the ball and outshot Kansas City 21-7 on the night, but the Roos netted a second half goal and the Roadrunner couldn't convert in a 1-0 shutout loss on the Main Soccer Field.

The action was fairly even in the first half with CSUB (4-12-1, 2-7-1) holding a 9-5 edge in shots and a 2-1 advantage on corner kicks.  Just six minutes into the second half, Pandeli Popgeorgiev carried the ball deep into Roadrunner territory and connected with Tim Staerz on a pretty give and go in front of the net to give the visitors the 1-0 lead.  It was Popgeorgiev's second goal of the season.

The `Runners had a multitude of opportunities to tie the game, as they ripped 12 shots in the second half, but it's best chance came just 30 seconds after Popgeorgiev's goal.  Jeremie Charron blasted a ball that went past keeper Ryan Tome, but the ball hit the crossbar, came all the way back to Charron, who blasted another shot high.
Ricardo Soza, Francsico Gomez, Ryan Goldsmith and Charron all had three shots each to pace the `Runner attack.  Detre Bell made two saves in goal in the loss, while Tome picked up the win after entering the match at the half.

Prior to the match, CSUB was eliminated from a potential berth in the WAC Tournament when UNLV beat Utah Valley 2-1 in overtime.  The Roadrunners will close the season on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. when they host California Baptist for Senior Night.
