CSUB Secures WAC Tournament Seed With 2-0 Win

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team had one objective today – win it to be in it. Bakersfield did just that with a 2-0 shutout over New Mexico State University. After a one-year hiatus, the Roadrunners have clinched a seed in the Western Athletic Conference tournament and could finish as high as fourth on league standings.

"We've played two good games this weekend where we created a lot of chances and we also got it done on the defensive end of the ball," said head coach Sebastian Vecchio.

CSUB opened scoring in the 22nd minute of the contest when Aryana Harvey sent a cross into the box that Caitlin Goetjen connected with and chipped in for her second goal on the year. Aminah Settles followed up with an insurance goal in the 28th minute to lift the Roadrunners 2-0 in the first half.

Bakersfield continued to attack in the second period with a 14-5 advantage in shots, but the Aggies goalkeeper Mia Montano was there to clean up the shots attempted. Montano ended the match with nine saves through 45 minutes in goal. The Roadrunners finished the contest with a commanding 20-6 advantage in shots and 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Jordan Bertram recorded her fourth shutout on the season and is now tied for the most shutouts in a single season. She had four saves in the match.

"I'm proud of this group for sticking together while he results were not happening for us, added Vecchio. "Now we turn the page to Grand Canyon so we can send our senior on a high note."
