Women’s Soccer Tallies Road Shutout At CBU

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team is determined to decide their own fate in Western Athletic Conference tournament seeding. First step, earning three conference points from the 1-0 shutout on the road at California Baptist University on Friday. The Roadrunners improved to 5-10, 2-4 WAC while the Lancers fell 11-4-1, 4-3 WAC.

"We had a very gritty performance today where we fought for everything we got and executed the game plan perfectly," said head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "We even got that lucky bounce going our way which hasn't been the case all year long!"

California Baptist was in attack most of the first period with a 9-3 advantage in shots, but the Lancers' offense couldn't get clear shots at goal with Bakersfield so relentless at the ball on defense. What did get through was met by keeper Jordan Bertram who had two saves through a scoreless 45 minutes of play.

CSUB opened scoring in the 56th minute of the contest when Aminah Settles scored her sixth goal of the season, 26th of her career. Aryana Harvey was credited the assist on goal. Settles' tally would prove to be the game-winner of the match.

Bertram returned to the Roadrunner lineup after missing the last three contests from a concussion sustained in competition. She recorded her third shutout of the season and had four saves on 19 shots faced. Sophie Freeman took a team-high four shots.

"We needed a few players to step in today in tough situations and they did fantastic," added Vecchio. "It was a complete team win."
