Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

`Runners Earn Second-Straight Overtime Victory

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A 97th-minute goal lifted CSU Bakersfield's women's soccer team to its second-straight overtime victory, this time, over previously undefeated Denver. Redshirt freshman Kamari Hines netted both of the Roadrunner goals at the Main Soccer Field on Thursday night, including the game-winner as CSUB took a 2-1 win over the Pioneers.

Denver, which came to Bakersfield with a record of 3-0-1, caught the `Runners off guard and scored a goal in the third minute of the match. Senior Jessie Dancy found the team's leading goal scorer, Hannah Adler, and the sophomore midfielder put away her third goal of the season to give DU a 1-0 lead.

Stunned by the quick goal, the `Runners shook off the poor start and took control of the match. The CSUB backline kept Denver out of the final third and consistent midfield possession led to several good looks on goal. Junior Claire Nelson's diving header looked like it would tie the match, but her shot went just high and CSUB went to halftime trailing by a goal.

The `Runners dominated the second half, outshooting the Pioneers 11-4 in the period. CSUB found the equalizer on a corner kick opportunity in the 53rd minute. Redshirt sophomore Aryana Harvey crossed the ball into the box and found Hines for her third goal of the season. The `Runners pressured late into the half, but they could not find the game-winner in regulation.

CSUB continued to control the match in overtime with Denver having no shot attempts in extra time. Seven minutes into the period, sophomore Sophie Freeman raced down a ball that nearly went out of bounds and sent it long to redshirt junior Aminah Settles. The forward outran her defender, took a soft touch, and crossed the ball into the box. The ball popped off the foot of a DU defender and found Hines' chest before hitting the back of the net for the CSUB victory.

Hines' second goal of the night was also a team-best fourth of the season while Harvey, Settles, and Freeman all recorded their first assists of the season on Thursday night. After giving up the early goal, CSUB's defense shut down the Pioneers and sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Bertram recorded three saves to help the `Runners earn the win at home.

CSUB (3-2-0) will head to north on Sunday to close the week with a match against Fresno State. The `Runners and Bulldogs are set for a 7 p.m. start in Fresno, Calif.
