`Runners Drop Hard Fought Season Opener at Arkansas

CSUB fell 3-1 at Arkansas to open the 2017 season.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- The CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners dropped a competitive season opener in SEC territory on Friday with 3-1 (26-24, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21) loss at Arkansas in the first game of a three-game tournament hosted by the Razorbacks.
 
Senior Sydney Haynes led the Roadrunners with 10 kills while Madison DeGarmo made an impact in her debut with nine as CSUB dropped three close sets on the road in their season opener.
 
CSUB took the lead on a couple of occasions in the opening game leading 12-10 at one point before the Razorbacks would tie it at 15 apiece. The Roadrunner held one more lead at 24-23 but Arkansas took the game by taking advantage of two CSUB attack errors and a kill for the 26-24 win.
 
Arkansas took the second set 25-18, before Bakersfield recovered to win game three 25-22. Desiree Sukhov put the final touches on the win for the `Runners with an ace and a kill. She finished with six kills for the Roadrunners. Sydney Wicks led CSUB with 20 assists in the loss while Emily Hansen recorded seven kills in her first action for CSUB.
 
The Razorbacks took the final game 25-21 pulling away at the net taking advantage of blocks and hitting errors to win the match.
 
The Roadrunners return to action Saturday with a pair of matches to conclude the tournament. First up is Utah State at 12 P.M. (CT) before they face Louisiana-Monroe at 5 P.M. (CT).
