TEMPE, Ariz.—No. 21 Arizona State overcame a 7-0 CSU Bakersfield deficit to defeat the Roadrunners 26-15 in Pac-12 wrestling action Thursday night.

In his first dual start, redshirt freshman Noah Blakely-Beanes defeated Ted Rico 7-4 at 133 pounds to get the Roadrunners off to a strong start. Russell Rohlfing won his seventh in a row (nine of his last 11) as he handed Nicholas Villarreal a 12-2 major decision defeat.

With CSUB leading 7-0, the Sun Devils posted back-to-back majors as Josh Maruca (149) and Josh Shields (157) were victorious. In a battle of nationally ranked wrestlers at 165, ASU's Anthony Valencia defeated Lorezno De La Riva 9-5. The Sun Devils flipped their probable starters with 184-pounder Jacen Petersen dropping down to 174 where he defeated Matt Penyacsek 8-2.

Zahlid Valencia, ranked first in three polls entering the week at 174 pounds, moved up to 184 and came away with a pinfall victory against Bryan Battisto. True freshman Jacob Sieder used a take down with under 25 seconds to go in the third period of the 197-pound bout versus Austyn Harris, and earned his second consecutive dual victory 11-10.

Tanner Hall led Alex Encarnarcion-Strand 4-3 in the second period when Encarnarcion-Strand was forced to injury default the heavyweight match at the 3:15 mark. The Roadrunners wrapped up the dual with a victory as Sean Nickell defeated Joshua Krammer by technical fall at 6:15, 17-2.

“Our guys competed hard and represented our program well,” said CSUB head coach Manny Rivera. “We are gaining valuable momentum heading into the post season.”

The Roadrunners (5-5, 1-2 Pac-12) travel to Oregon State (4-6, 3-1 WAC) Sunday. Action begins at 7 p.m. and will be available live on Pac-12 Los Angeles with a repeat at 9 p.m. on the Pac-12 national feed. The dual will be streamed on Pac12.com.
