`Runners Take On The Spartans For The Third Annual NYE Meet

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's women's swimming and diving team is set to host its third annual New Year's Eve meet with San José State as the Spartans will travel to Bakersfield once more. The Roadrunners will dive into the pool at the Hillman Aquatic Center to take on the Spartans in a dual on Sunday, Dec. 31.

San Jose and Bakersfield are no strangers to competing against each other, both teams have met up in single dual matches 13 times since CSUB entered division I status in the 2007-08 season. Unfortunately, in all the previous match ups the Spartans have defeated the `Runners but CSUB has slowly come closer and closer to defeating SJSU each year.

"San Jose is always a difficult but fun meet for us, said Chris Hansen, director of CSUB swimming and diving. "It's a friendly rivalry since Sage Hopkins, the head coach, is an alumni and former CSUB assistant. It's always been a close meet and we really want to start making it even closer. It's tough just coming back from Christmas break just three days before the meet but my ladies are tough! We will be missing some ladies due to injuries but we are ready to battle"

This year the `Runners are looking to win the annual swim meet as they have top women swimmers such as sophomore Jayssie Hayes, who has set three new records in the last month on the Women's All-Time Top 5 list, and sophomore's Maddie Cosgrove, Morgan King and Alyssa Madero who also placed on the top 5 times in the 2017 year.

The dual is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the Hillman Aquatic Center. 'Runner fans can stick around after the meet to watch CSUB's women's basketball team take on UC Irvine at 1 p.m. in the Icardo Center.
