DALLAS, Texas – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team finished their first match up with SMU in a tough loss. The Roadrunners lost 41-29 against the Mustangs but before today SMU came into the game averaging 67 points per game and the `Runners defense held them to 41 points.

The `Runners got off to a slow start in the first quarter with only 22% field goals made and trailed by seven points, 13-6. Second quarter was another story, CSUB went on a 10-0 run and defensively held on to the Mustangs from scoring once in the second quarter, 16-13. At the end of the half Sophomore Dalis Jones led Bakersfield with six points scoring both behind the arch while Jerice Fears had four rebounds.

In the third quarter the Mustangs came out hot going on an 8-0 run. However, senior Aja Williams scored eight points to keep the `Runners in the lead. CSUB's defense kept them in the game through the third, 26-24.

Once again, the Mustang opened the fourth quarter and this time offensively dominated and held the `Runners to just three points. SMU outscored CSUB 17-3 in the final quarter.

Williams led Bakersfield with 12 points, seven rebounds, and two assists while redshirt Jazmyne Bartee ended the day with five rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. As a team CSUB made 19% of its field goals and 12 points in the paint.

The `Runners will head for the road again for a game in California on Wednesday, Dec. 6. CSUB will face off against UC Riverside with tipoff scheduled for 11 a.m. `Runner fans can watch both games live by finding the link on the women's basketball schedule page.
