NEWARK, Del. – Kevin Anderson and Ryan Daly combined for 42 of Delaware's 76 points and the CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team fell to the Blue Hens 76-62. The `Runners were looking for their fourth consecutive victory, but with the loss, the `Runners fall to 7-7 on the season.
CSUB opened up the game with a three pointer from freshman
Jarkel Joiner, but that would be the only time CSUB would lead in the game. The Blue Hens would take control of the first half behind Delaware's leading scorer Ryan Daly and his game leading 14 points at the half.
Daly would add six rebounds and three assists for good measure. The `Runners were led by Joiner's 11 first half points. But the story of the first half, besides Daly, was CSUB's foul trouble. Senior
Brent Wrapp,
Fallou Ndoye and freshman
Justin Davis all had three fouls by halftime.
The `Runners were called for 14 team fouls to Delaware's nine and the Blue Hens shot 16 free throws, eleven more than the `Runners. Ironically, that is exactly what the `Runners trailed by at the break, 38-27.
The second half opened up very similar to how the first half script went. Wrapp picked up his fourth foul 14 seconds into the second half and the senior floor general had to go to the bench immediately. CSUB's Davis would foul out with 8:20 remaining in the game and the freshman would finish with five points and four rebounds. Ndoye would foul out with 4:56 remaining in the game and the senior from Senegal finished with nine points and three rebounds in 16 minutes of court time.
Joiner finished with a game high 23 points and was 5-9 from three point range. Despite Wrapp being in foul trouble, the senior finished with six points, five rebounds and 7 assists.
Delaware would shoot 44% from the field and attempted 33 free throws. The `Runners shot 40% from the field, but attempted only 18 free throws.
The `Runners will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 27 for their last non-conference game of the regular season at Arkansas of the Southeastern Conference. Tipoff in Fayetteville will be 7 p.m. CT and 5 p.m. Bakersfield time.
