Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team finished up non-conference play on the road at Southeastern Conference's Arkansas and only trailed the Razorbacks by four at the half, but a big run in the second half propelled Arkansas to a 95-68 victory.
The Razorbacks got out to an early 10-3 lead and it forced the `Runners to take an early timeout just four minutes into the game. But CSUB continued to battle and at one point tied the game at 38 and only trailed Arkansas 42-38 at the break.
The `Runners were led by
Rickey Holden's nine first half points and
Jarkel Joiner and
Justin Davis had seven each. Arkansas dominated the scoring in the paint, 24-8 and the Razorbacks outrebounded CSUB 25-14, but despite that, the `Runners hung around and only trailed by four. The `Runners drained six three pointers to the Razorbacks three in the first 20 minutes.
Brent Wrapp continues to add to his assist total and the RoadRunner senior had six of the `Runners nine assists in the first half.
Arkansas would open the second half 4-5 from three point range and the Razorbacks would go on a 14-2 run and would take a 56-40 lead. Arkansas would extend their lead throughout the second half with a balanced scoring attack. The Razorbacks had five players score in double digits in the game, including Jaylen Barford's game high 19.
The `Runners would shoot 34% from the field and after making six first half three pointers, CSUB would only make one in the second half. Joiner would lead CSUB in scoring with 12, while Holden and Davis would both finish with 11.
Arkansas improves to 10-2 on the season, while the `Runners fall to 7-8.
The `Runners will now turn their focus to Western Athletic Conference play and will open up on the road at Utah Valley on Saturday, Jan. 6.
