`Runners Finish Day Two Strong At U.S. Nationals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – CSU Bakersfield's men and women's swim team competed in their second day of U.S. Nationals in two events this morning, the 200 IM and the 50 Free. Five Roadrunners had strong finishes, including Jayssie Haynes who broke into another CSUB All-Time Top 5 in the 200 IM.

"Jayssie continues to rewrite the record books," said Chris Hansen, Director of CSUB's swim and dive. "She swam in the 200 IM in 2:05.57, during the bonus time trials, to get the 5th fastest time in school's history. This girl loves to race and it shows every time she enters the water."

The sophomore from San Jose, Calif. has proven to be a strong swimmer and only getting stronger as each meet comes up. In just the last two meets, only two weeks apart from each other, she has placed herself on the CSUB All-Time Top 5 list in three different events.

From the men's side, Lovre Soric (1:50.64), Kris Rogic (1:53.55), and Ethan Trieu (1:55.07) competed in the 200 IM as well. "Lovre's 200 IM was right on what he went here last year which puts us on track and where we want to be. Freshman Kris and Ethan had decent swims this morning, doubling the UNLV Invite and Nationals is tough for any freshman and they did great," said Hansen. Rogic and Trieu both had personal bests with the 200 IM time.

The lone `Runner, Richie Campbell, competed for the bonus trail in the 50 free with a time of 21.16. Campbell had a season best and only shy of his best time by 48 seconds.

Chris Hansen went on to comment about how proud he is of the five who competed at Nationals this morning and what we can expect for tomorrow. "I'm proud of everyone's swims today and we look forward to tomorrow. Kris has a big day, he will be trying the 400 IM, an event he has not swam for us yet, and the 100 Back. Lovre, Owen, Ethan and Loren all have individual events. Lovre, Richie, Jaren and Joe will also swim the 200 Free Relay."
