Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

`Runners Fall To SJSU On The Road

SAN JOSE, Calif. – A win or a tie was the objective of CSU Bakersfield men's soccer team's in its road match on Friday, but the San José State Spartans were prepared to make that difficult. The Roadrunners were looking to clinch a spot in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament with a result, but SJSU took a 1-0 win, forcing Bakersfield to wait for Saturday's league-match results.

The first half was relatively quiet, but the match's only goal came in the 34th minute. Miguel Castillo headed home a cross from Omar Lemus for his first goal of the season, which proved to be the gamewinner. SJSU outshot CSUB 7-4 in the opening period.

The second half proved to be much more action-packed than the first 45 minutes. CSUB took control and did not panic, maintaining possession a majority of the time. The `Runners outshot the Spartans 10-3 and had multiple close looks on goal in the final minutes, but goalkeeper David Heredia and the SJSU backline held on for the shutout and the victory.

With the loss, CSUB (6-10-1, 4-5-1 WAC) is now fifth in the WAC standings. In order to qualify for the WAC Tournament (top 7 teams qualify), the `Runners will need one of the following: a Grand Canyon loss, a UTRGV loss or tie, or a Utah Valley loss or tie. All three of those teams will be in action on Saturday, so keep your eyes on @CSUBAthletics on Twitter for up-to-date information on the `Runners chances to go to the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev.
