BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team (0-1) will get their regular season in full swing with three games in a six day period, beginning with their home opener Tuesday, Nov. 14 against Fresno Pacific.
The `Runners opened their season with a loss on Saturday at UTEP, but did get a couple standout performances from senior
Aja Williams and junior
Jazmine Johnson.
The `Runners will tipoff with Fresno Pacific at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Icardo Center. Last year, CSUB defeated Fresno Pacific 84-61 with a balanced scoring attack with the `Runners having seven players score seven or more points.
CSUB will then travel north to play San Jose State on Friday, Nov. 17 with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. The last time the `Runners played SJSU was two years ago in Bakersfield and it was an instant classic that CSUB won 90-88 in overtime.
On Sunday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. the `Runners will play at national powerhouse Stanford. CSUB fell to the Cardinals 77-56 last season when Stanford was ranked 11
th in the country at the time.
"This is going to be a busy week for us," said
Greg McCall, CSUB's Head Women's Basketball Coach, who wants a team that will play hard until the final whistle. "We don't have a lot of time to work on stuff with the games being back-to-back-to-back, but these are going to be three good games. This week gives us the opportunity to see what it will be like going into conference play. All of the games this week are big, not just Stanford. We feel good about the home opener. We really want to protect our home floor and get off to a great start at home. We need to do a better job of executing on offense and our defensive assignments. We plan to get those things corrected in this week's game."
