`Runners Set For Home Matches Against UMKC And Air Force

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – With three games remaining in the regular season, the CSU Bakersfield men's soccer team (5-8-1, 3-3-1 WAC) controls its own destiny to qualify for the Western Athletic Conference tournament.

CSUB is tied for fourth place heading into the weekend and the `Runners play Kansas City on Friday, Oct. 27, and No. 15 Air Force on Sunday, Oct. 29, both at home in Bakersfield.  `Runners Head Coach Richie Grant and his squad has done a great job of protecting home field this season as CSUB is 4-0 at Main Soccer Field and all four have been dramatic, one-goal victories.

The UMKC Roos will come to Bakersfield on Friday with a 1-4-1 road record, while sitting in sixth place in the WAC at 3-4 and a 5-7-3 record overall.  The Roos are led by senior Eric McWoods, from St. Louis, Mo., who leads UMKC with 21 points and also leads the team in goals with nine.  The next closest Roos player in goals has three.

The No. 15 team in the nation and the top team in the WAC, Air Force, comes to CSUB on Sunday afternoon.  The Falcons enter the weekend at 11-1-3 overall and 5-0-2 in the WAC and they are far and away the best defensive team in the WAC.  Air Force has only allowed eight goals through the first 15 games of the season.  The Falcons are led in scoring by two juniors, Tucker Bone (5 goals, 6 assists) and Austin Dewing (3 goals, 6 cssists).

The `Runners are led at the back by goalkeeper Detre Bell and the Captain and center back Jamie Carey-Morrell.  Despite being a defender, Carey-Morrell leads CSUB with five goals.  The 'Runners are fueled on the offensive end by Sebastian Mentel's eight points and Niklas Korber's seven points.

Friday night is Senior Night at CSUB.  The `Runner family will honor and celebrate the academic and athletic achievements of seniors Jamie Carey-Morrell and Marshall Garcia.

Two huge games this weekend at Main Soccer Field in Bakersfield and if you are a soccer fan and/or a youth soccer player, this is a great weekend to witness some great collegiate soccer.
