LOS ANGELES—No. 1 USC defeated No. 23 CSU Bakersfield 16-3 in MPSF water polo action Sunday afternoon.
USC led 6-0 at half. The Women of Troy used a six-goal third period to break the game open. Ioanna Haralabidis and her sister Stephania both scored four goals for the Women of Troy. Brigitta Games charted a hat trick. Nicola Barrett posted two of the three CSUB goals.
The Women of Troy outshot the Roadrunners 35-19 and forced 23 CSUB turnovers. CSUB forced 18 USC turnovers while Niki De Leon drew three exclusions. Roadrunner goalie Brittany Tyra made 12 saves.
“Playing Stanford and USC back to back is tough,” said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. “There is no doubt that we playing at a higher level and I am proud of the way we came out to play today and played until the final whistle.”
After a bye week, the Roadrunners return to the pool on Apr. 16 when CSUB hosts No. 11 San Jose State in the home final at 1 p.m. The annual 'Runner alumni game follows at 3:30 p.m.
