CSUB Looks To Secure WAC Seed In Seattle Saturday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team heads to Seattle U this weekend with hopes of securing the third seed in next week's WAC Tournament.

If the Roadrunners (10-18, 7-6 WAC) defeat the Redhawks and Grand Canyon defeats Utah Valley, CSUB will earn the third seed. If CSUB defeats Seattle U and Utah Valley beats Grand Canyon, the 'Runners will be the fourth seed. CSUB will be fourth seed if the Roadrunners lose to the Redhawks.

CSUB defeated Seattle U 76-68 Jan. 16 in Bakersfield to take a 11-4 all-time series lead. The Redhawks are 9-19 overall, 3-10 in WAC play. Taelor Ross leads SU in scoring (12.9) and rebounding (6.1). Tal Shar is averaging 10.0 points per game.

Batabe Zempare has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 22 through Feb. 28.  This is the third time this season Zempare has earned the honor and it is the fifth time in her career she has been named WAC Player of the Week.

A senior from Accra, Ghana (Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chapparal HS), Zempare became the seventh active Division I player with 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds as the 6-2 forward scored 23 points and brought down 13 rebounds to lead the Roadrunners to a road win at Grand Canyon. She hit a pair of free throws with 6:39 remaining in the game to reach the 1,000-point plateau.  Her 13 rebounds brought her career total to 1,086.
