Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- The CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners struck first on Friday afternoon, getting two runs in the first inning while riding the arm of Amber Mills to a 3-0 win over Santa Clara at the UCSB Gaucho Classic.
Mills improved to 4-6 on the season by tossing 6.1 scoreless innings allowing just one hit while walking two and striking out one in a masterful performance. Sydney Raeber entered with one out in the seventh inning striking out both batters she faced for her first save of the season.
Julea Cavazos paced the Roadrunners' offense going 4-for-4 on the day. She scored the games first run by singling to open the ballgame and scoring on a throwing error later in the inning. Briana Pontecorvo also had an RBI single in the first scoring Selena Gonzales with two outs. Gonzales was the other 'Runner with multiple hits on the evening going 2-for-3 for CSUB who defeated Santa Clara for the second time in as many weeks after 10-2 win in five innings over the Broncos last week at the Santa Clara Tournament.
The Roadrunners would add an insurance run in the top of the 6th inning when Chris Hippa led off with a triple, she would score on a fielder's choice in the infield hit by Jo Larios.
CSUB returns to action Saturday with another matchup with Santa Clara at 11:15 A.M., they will also face San Diego tomorrow at 1:30 P.M. to conclude the Gaucho Classic.
