HONOLULU, Hawai'i—No. 10 UC San Diego defeated No. 24 CSU Bakersfield 13-7 in water polo action Thursday at the University of Hawai'i.

The Tritons (19-7) led 4-2 after one and 9-3 at halftime. CSUB outscored UC San Diego 2-1 in the third, but were outscored 3-1 in the fourth. Jada Helberg and Nicola Barrett both scored two goals for the Roadrunners. Barrett also made three steals. CSUB goalie Courtney Wahlstrom charted 13 saves and had seven steals.

“We didn't adjust properly on defense in the first half,” said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. “We had plenty of opportunities to score on offense. We weren't able to execute.”

The Roadrunners continue the Hawai'i trip Friday when CSUB (13-13) takes on No. 7 UC Irvine at 4 p.m. HST/7 p.m. PDT.
