FRESNO, Calif.--No. 24 CSU Bakersfield won a pair of water polo matches Saturday in Fresno.
CSUB defeated Fresno Pacific 13-6 in the opener. The Roadrunner defense was strong, making 20 steals and five saves. Ashley Paz, Jada Helberg, and Tancy Aldridge each recorded hat tricks for the Roadrunners.
“We made some changes to our defense and there was definitely a different feel to the game,” said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. “As we get used to this, it will really pay off in the long run. We had good balanced scoring and made some nice defensive plays.”
The defense was outstanding again for the Roadrunners against Cal State Monterey Bay in the nightcap. CSUB tallied 21 steals as the 'Runners defeated the Otters 11-5. Kristen Jensen charted a hat trick while Paz posted two goals. Tyra played the entire game in goal and had 10 saves.
“I was worried about both of these games this week,” Gall said. “I thought we were very focused and had great energy. We need to carry this over to tomorrow.
After 24 matches on the road, CSUB (13-11, 0-1 MPSF) will have its first home match on Sunday when the 'Runners host No. 2 UCLA (15-2, 0-0 MPSF). The match will begin at 1 p.m.
