THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield competed a 4-0 run at the Cal Lutheran Tina Finali Invitational Saturday with a pair of victories.
The Roadrunners defeated the host Regals 9-5 to begin Saturday play. Ashley Paz and Gabby Wiltse both scored twice to lead the Runners. Niki De Leon charted three assists. Three players each charted three steals as Courtney Wahlstrom tallied six saves.
“Cal Lu came out tough and it threw us off a little bit,” said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. “We needed to convert more offensively, but our defense was solid.”
The Roadrunners wrapped up the weekend sweep with a 15-3 victory over Siena. Ruby Versfeld scored three goals and registered three steals. Lindsey Paulson scored twice and added four steals. Brittany Tyra made 13 saves.
“We established some good offensive momentum,” Gall said. “Defensively we are starting to create an identity and understanding on what needs to be done. I was really happy with our freshman and sophomores. They really stepped up this weekend and played quite a few quality minutes.”
The Roadrunners (8-9) travel to Azusa Pacific next Saturday for a tri-dual with APU and No. 25 CSUN. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
