Ahmed Selected In NBA Development League Draft

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- Two-time First-Team All-Western Athletic Conference selection Aly Ahmed, who completed a decorated three-year career with CSUB last season, was selected in the 5th round on Sunday in the NBA Development League Draft by the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

Ahmed was one of just four players in the history of CSUB to score at least 1,000 points and grab over 500 rebounds in his career. He finished his CSUB career 10th all-time in scoring (1075 pts) and fifth all-time in career rebounds (588).

“We are happy and excited about Aly being drafted by the Skyforce, the D-League affiliate of the Miami Heat,” said CSUB head coach Rod Barnes. “His hard work and dedication is paying off and this is only the beginning of Aly's professional career. We are expecting a long and successful career.”

Ahmed was named to the All-Defensive team in the WAC in 2014 and was a first-team All-WAC selection in both 2015 and 2016. He becomes just the second Roadrunner ever drafted by the NBA D-League following Tyrone White who was selected in the third round by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in 2014. White is currently playing professionally in Mexico.

The WAC was well-represented in the D-League Draft with three other players Isiah Umipig and Charles Garcia of Seattle and Grandy Glaze of Grand Canyon also being selected in the first five rounds.

The NBA Development League is the NBA's official minor league, preparing players, coaches, officials, trainers, and front-office staff for the NBA while acting as the league's research and development laboratory. Featuring 22 teams — all with one-to-one affiliations with NBA franchises — heading into the 2016-17 season.
