RIVERSIDE, Calif.--No. 21 CSU Bakersfield split a pair of matches at the California Baptist Mini Saturday.
Hannah Evans scored six goals to lead No. 22 California Baptist past CSUB 12-9 in morning play. Evans posted a hat trick in the first quarter as the Lancers led 6-2 after the first quarter. CBU would lead 8-3 at halftime before the 'Runners outscored the Lancers 3-1 in the third. Both teams scored three times in the final eight minutes to make it the final 12-9.
Jada Helberg paced the 'Runner attack with her second career hat trick. Six other CSUB players scored for the Roadrunners. CSUB goalie Courtney Wahlstrom made six saves.
“The subs did exactly what we need them to do,” said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. “They played quality minutes throughout the game. We can't give up six goals to any team in any quarter at any time.”
CSUB defeated Azusa Pacific 10-9 in the afternoon session. The Cougars led 3-2 after one before CSUB outscored APU 3-1 in the second. That proved to be the difference as each team would score three times in the third and twice in the fourth.
Wahlstrom tied her career high with 18 saves. She also made a steal. Nicola Barrett scored twice and posted three assists. Niki De Leon charted three goals. Ashley Paz tallied two goals as well.
“Nicola and Niki both had a great game,” Gall said. “That's what our fourth year players should be doing. They really played a big part in this one.”
The Roadrunners (3-7) are off until Feb. 20 when CSUB travels to the UC Davis Shoot-Out. The 'Runners take on the host Aggies, who are currently ranked ninth in Division I at 1:30 p.m.
