BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-- The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation released its 2015 Women's Water Polo All-Academic selections Thursday and three student-athletes from CSU Bakersfield landed on the list. Katie Benson, Courtney Wahlstrom, and Tancy Aldridge were all named MPSF All-Academic Scholar-Athletes after qualifying with a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better.
“These three girls have worked hard in the pool all year long,” said Jason Gall, Bakersfield's head coach. “It's nice for them to also be recognized for all the hard work they put in in the classroom.”
Leading the way for the 'Runners in the classroom was Benson, a driver from La Crescenta, Calif., who has put together an impressive 3.62 GPA through the first two years of her collegiate career. A business major, Benson competed in 28 of 29 games for the 'Runners this season. The sophomore scored 22 goals on the year while adding 10 assists, 30 steals, and 28 blocks for CSUB.
Wahlstrom, a goalkeeper from Palm Desert, Calif., has earned a 3.34 cumulative GPA in her petroleum engineering studies. The 5-11 sophomore shared time in between the pipes for CSUB this year, playing in 13.25 games. Wahlstrom's goals allowed average was 11.62 on the season while she made 109 blocks on her way to a 6-7 record.
Rounding out the Roadrunner Scholar-Athletes is Aldridge, the third CSUB sophomore who hails from Lompoc, Calif. Aldridge is a math major who has cumulated a 3.08 GPA over the past two years. In the pool, the utility player was one of only two 'Runners to play in all 29 games this season. Aldridge amassed 19 goals and 10 assists on the year while leading CSUB to a 12-17 record.
