Roadrunners Wrap Up Regular Season Saturday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team (21-7, 10-3 WAC) wraps up the regular season Saturday when the Roadrunners host Utah Valley.

CSUB will honor seniors Tyonna Outland (Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) and Brooklynn Hinkens (Lake Tapps, Wash., Auburn-Riverside HS) prior to 1 p.m. start.

Outland became the all-time scoring leader at CSU Bakersfield on Jan. 22 when she scored 24 points against UMKC. Entering today, she has scored 1988 points breaking the previous school mark of 1,796 which was set by Katie McElree from 2002-06. If she can reach 2,000, she would become the 338th player in Division I history to score at least 2,000 in her career and is fourth among active Division I women's basketball players in scoring.

In addition to the all-time scoring record at CSUB, Ty holds school records in made career free throws, career free throw attempts, field goals attempted in a career, and games played in a career. She is among the top 10 in school history in six other categories and holds five single season CSUB Division I school records.

Hinkens moved into fourth for career three-pointers at NM State Jan. 15. Her 155 made three-pointers are the second most at Division I level for CSUB. Hinkens' 175 three-point field goal attempts this season are the most by a Roadrunner at the Division I level. Her 58 made three-pointers in 2014-15 are tied with three other players for the third most in a season at the Division I level by a CSUB player. Brook played in her 100th career game against Grand Canyon in January and is now sixth in games played in school history (113).

Smith has appeared in 58 games for the Roadrunners, starting 23 times. She has made 45 three-point field goals during her CSUB career and has dished out 111 assists.

New Mexico State clinched the regular season WAC Championship with an 80-60 victory over Texas-Pan American Saturday. The Aggies will be the No. 1 seed at the Mar. 11, 13-14 WAC Tournament. NM State will have a first round bye.

CSUB's 73-61 victory over Seattle U last Saturday secured the No. 2 seed for the Roadrunners. CSUB will face the seventh seed, Chicago State, on Mar. 11 at 4:30 p.m.

UTPA will be the third seed and face UMKC in the first round. Utah Valley and Seattle will be in the 4-5 game, but Saturday's results will determine who gets the higher seed. On Friday, Mar. 13, NM State plays the winner of the 4-5 game at 12 p.m. while the winner of the CSUB-Chicago State game will play the winner of the 3-6 matchup at 2:30 p.m.

Utah Valley (11-17, 5-8 WAC) defeated CSUB 70-58 on Feb. 19 in Orem. The Roadrunners lead the all-time series 8-3. Wolverine sophomore Rhaiah Spooner-Knight is sixth in the WAC in scoring with a team leading 13.2 ppg average. Teammate Mariah Seals is eighth in the league in scoring (11.6).  Karlee Norris provides an inside presence as she is fifth in the WAC in rebounding (7.1). The Wolverines are the top three-point shooting team in WAC (.380). UVU has struggled on the road this season, going 0-12 entering the CSUB game.
