IOWA CITY, Iowa-- Mitchell Huxhold (Sr., Escondido, Calif., San Pasqual HS) concluded his collegiate career and the 2015 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with a strong performance in the 1650 freestyle. The Roadrunner senior finished 19th in the nation with a time of 14:56.75.

“I am so proud of Mitchell,” said Chris Hansen, Bakersfield's Director of Swimming, who has watched the senior grow into a standout swimmer over the past four years. “We struggled in the beginning of the meet and then to finish with a faster time in the 1650 than last year's NCAAs and this year's WAC time is truly impressive. His time is the 19th fastest in the USA this year.”

Huxhold's time on Saturday left the California native just three places outside of earning his second All-American honors. He was able to lower his season best, a time which earned the senior a WAC title in February, by .09 seconds.

Hansen had the highest praises for his soon-to-be graduated swimmer: “Mitchell will always be an inspiration to me and this program. This season, he overcame a broken nose, three tapers, and an illness just before we left to finish with a great time. I am as sad to see him finish his career as I am happy to see him finish his career strong! I will truly miss him!”

Huxhold's CSUB career is now over, but the senior can take a box full of honors and trophies when he graduates. The distance swimmer leaves the program owning four individual school records (200, 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyle), the CSUB record in the 800 freestyle relay, and as a six-time conference Champion. Huxhold also holds the honor of being the only Roadrunner to have won the WAC Swimmer of the Year award and the only Roadrunner in any sport to be given the WAC's Joe Kearney Award for the best athlete of the year.
