BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team looks for its 21st consecutive win at home Saturday when the Roadrunners host Seattle U at 1 p.m. The game is National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) on the CSUB campus.
CSUB is 14-0 this season at home and have won 20 consecutive games on the Blue Floor of the Icardo Center since losing to Idaho 96-69 on Jan. 18, 2014. The 20 wins in a row at home is all-time school record and is tied with Maryland for the fifth longest current streak in Division I beginning the week of Feb. 23. UConn currently has the longest home winning streak at 32 games.
The Roadrunners have won 30 of their past 31 at home dating back to Jan. 3, 2013 when Fresno State defeated CSUB 77-68. Since beginning play in the Icardo Center in 2000, the Roadrunners are 87-28 (a .756 winning percentage) at home. CSU Bakersfield played home games in Rabobank Arena from 2000-2009, going 64-8 in downtown Bakersfield. CSUB is 151-36 all-time at home (.807 winning percentage).
CSUB sits in second in the WAC with a 9-3 league record. CSUB trails New Mexico State who is 11-1 on the year. NM State has already clinched at least a share of the WAC title and with one win, the Aggies would earn the title outright and get the first round bye at the Mar. 11-14 WAC Tournament. The seven eligible WAC teams qualify for the WAC Tournament.
For the ninth time in the 15-year history of the CSUB women's basketball program, the Roadrunners have won at least 20 (20-7) games. CSUB won at least 20 games in the first seven years of the program at the Division II level. The Roadrunners won 22 games during the 2010-11 season.
CSUB took a 9-4 all-time series lead when the Roadrunners defeated the Redhawks 69-62 Jan. 31 in Seattle. The Redhawks sit in fifth in the WAC with a 5-7 record. Seattle U is 8-19 overall. The Redhawks are the top rebounding team in the league (40.4).
Taelor Ross is SU's leading scorer at 11.6 points per game. She recorded her third double-double of the year (18 points and 12 rebounds) and blocked a career high six shots at UMKC last Thursday.
Tyonna Outland is nearing another milestone in 2,000 career points. Outland has scored 1,959 points, breaking the previous school mark of 1,796 which was set by Katie McElree from 2002-06. If Outland can reach 2,000, she would become the 337th player in Division I history to score at least 2,000 in her career.
