BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team heads out onto the road for the final time this week when CSUB plays at Chicago State and Missouri-Kansas City.
The Roadrunners (18-7) are tied for second in the WAC with Texas-Pan American with a 7-3 league record. Both teams trail New Mexico State who is 9-1 on the year. The seven eligible WAC teams qualify for the WAC Tournament Mar. 11-14 with the No. 1 seed getting a first round bye. Both NM State and UTPA host Utah Valley and Grand Canyon this week.
CSUB defeated the Cougars for the sixth consecutive time Jan. 24 when the 'Runners handed Chicago State an 83-58 defeat in the Icardo Center. The Roadrunners lead the all-time series 6-1. The Cougars are 4-19 and won their first WAC game Jan. 29 when Chicago State defeated Utah Valley 60-55. The Cougars are 1-8 in league play.
Paris Williams is 10th in the WAC in scoring (11.2 points per game). Layne Murphy is 13th in the league scoring (10.2). Murphy is second in the WAC in rebounding (8.1) and sixth in field goal shooting (.466).
The Roadrunners took a 4-0 all-time series lead against the Kangaroos on Jan. 22 when CSUB defeated UMKC 70-67 in the Icardo Center. The Kangaroos sit in a tie for sixth in the WAC with Utah Valley (3-6). UMKC is 5-19 overall.
Sophomore Kali White is the WAC leader in free throw shooting (.847) and minutes played (36.7). White is sixth in the league in assists (3.1), seventh in scoring (12.3), and eighth three-point shooting (.365).
Roadrunner guard/forward Tianna Outland earned WAC Player of the Week for the sixth time Feb. 16. Outland helped the Roadrunners pick up their 19th and 20th straight home win over Texas-Pan American and New Mexico State. After scoring 21 points against UTPA, Outland came out ready to play against first-place New Mexico State, scoring 23 points and bringing down a career high 13 rebounds to hand the Aggies their first conference loss of the season. Outland averaged 22.0 points, 9.0 rebound, and 5.0 assists on the week.
Outland was also selected College Sports Madness WAC Player of the Week for her performances against UTPA and NM State.
