BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The CSU Bakersfield wrestling team takes it outside on Saturday at California Baptist before hosting the Roadrunner Open Sunday.
Saturday's dual is CBU's “Take It Outside II”. The meet will be contested on CBU's front lawn and will begin at 12 p.m. The first installment of “Take It Outside” saw Stanford take on the Lancers in front of 2,620 fans, a then record for attendance for an outdoor wrestling dual.
Saturday will be the fourth meeting between CBU and CSUB and third in as many seasons. The Roadrunners have won all four duals, but the 2013-14 matchup in Riverside was decided by just five points, 20-15.
The Lancers are 1-0 after defeating Embry-Riddle 38-7 in the 2015-16 opener last weekend. CBU has six wrestlers ranked in the Division II Super Region IV polls.
The ranked Lancer wrestlers are; Bradford Gerl (141, No. 5), Brady Bersano (149, No. 2), Matt Hickman (157, No. 5), Nolan Kistler (165, No. 5), Bradley Christensen (1-0), Christian Smith (174, No. 3), Paul Head (197, No. 3), Joe Fagiano (285, No. 3).
CSUB's Bryce Hammond and Adam Fierro are ranked in six different individual polls while Reuben Franklin is ranked in four different individual polls. Hammond is as high as eighth at 174 pounds while Fierro is as high as 12th in the polls at 165. Franklin is as high as 10th at 197 pounds.
Sunday's fifth Roadrunner Open will begin at 10 a.m. in Fresno's Selland Arena. Scheduled to compete full teams from Cal Poly, CSUB, Drexel, Edinboro, Menlo, San Francisco State, and Stanford. Backups and redshirts from Arizona State, Oregon State, and Utah Valley are also scheduled to enter the meet.
