Burks Takes Both Boards; 'Runners Fall To Idaho

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-- Junior diver Carlee Burks earned a pair of wins with season-best scores on both diving boards as the CSU Bakersfield women's swimming and diving fell in a dual to the University of Idaho. Saturday's meet between the two Western Athletic Conference members concluded with the Vandals defeating the Roadrunners 212-88.

CSUB was without a few of its top swimmers on Saturday. “Paola Hernandez has the flu; she's been out all week,” said Chris Hansen, Director of Swimming at CSUB. “Emily Vose is out, Michaela Paige, Michaela Salinas due to injury. Not having those four women and three of them not in the water at all hurt us. We have to get over these injuries.”

Burks, a junior from Bakersfield, continued to lead the 'Runners with another solid pair of diving scores at the Hillman Aquatics Center. The Centennial High School graduate posted a season-best score of 277.88 on the 1-meter, winning the event but missing her personal best by just over five points. Burks went on to take the 3-meter event as well with another season-best score (255.53).

Freshman Sabrina Zavala posted a strong time in the 1000 free on Saturday. The South Pasadena, Calif. native finished the 40 laps in a time of 10:31.05, lowering her collegiate-best in the event by 16 seconds to place second. Fellow freshman Darya Samiee finished third in the race (10:50.96) expanding her resume by competing in her eighth different event so far this season.

Senior Nicolette Goncalves finished third in the 100 backstroke (59.96) for the 'Runners, missing a season-best time by just nine hundredths of a second. Kiana Dorris placed second in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.62.
