BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- After a one-game break from conference play the CSUB Roadrunners (7-14, 2-3 WAC) return to Western Athletic Conference action Saturday night hosting Seattle at 7 P.M. at the Icardo Center.
The game is the first of three-straight home WAC games for the 'Runners who have won two straight, a 57-41 win at Chicago State a week ago and Tuesday night's 79-54 win over San Diego Christian. In that game the 'Runners were led by Aly Ahmed (Jr., Alexandria, Egypt, Midland CC) who scored 21 points on 5-of-12 from the field while Javonte Maynor (R-Sr., Atlanta, Ga., Georgia State) added 17 for CSUB in the win. Maynor has shaken off a slow start from three-point range and is shooting over 48% from beyond-the-arc in the last four games.
Seattle(10-9, 3-2 WAC) had a three-game winning streak snapped their last time out in a 75-55 blowout loss at Kansas City last Saturday night. In that game the Redhawks struggled with 22 turnovers and managed just 5-of-16 from three-point range.
The Redhawks are led by redshirt senior guard Isiah Umipig who enters Saturday's game averaging 18 points per contest, the third-most in the WAC. He's also the conference leader in three-pointers taken and three-pointers made (78). Fellow redshirt senior guard Jarell Flora is averaging 15 ppg for Seattle this season. Flora had 21 at UMKC while Umipig added 20 points in the loss that included a 56% second-half shooting total for UMKC.
Kevin Mays (Jr., Queens, N.Y., Odessa CC) continues to lead the WAC with 8 rpg, he recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds against San Diego Christian. He's also the only player in the WAC with 10 games in which he's recorded 10 rebounds.
Aly Ahmed leads CSUB in scoring with 14 ppg. Since his return from an ankle injury that cost him a pair of games, Ahmed has scored in double figures in all but one game since, the exception coming in CSUB loss at UMKC where he was limited due to early foul trouble.
