GREENSBORO, N.C.- The CSUB Roadrunners put their three-game winning streak on the line in their final tune up before conference play begins as they take on North Carolina A&T (2-13) Saturday at the Corbett Sports Center.
The Roadrunners are coming off an 87-36 win over the University of LaVerne on New Year's Eve which followed their 55-52 upset at Cal on December 28. A victory for Bakersfield on Saturday would be their longest winning streak since winning five straight early in the 2013-14 season.
CSUB won the previous meeting against North Carolina A&T 60-52 in December of 2012. The Aggies went on to win the MEAC Tournament in play in the NCAA Tournament that season.
In their last game CSUB avoided a letdown against LaVerne on New Year's Eve by dominating the Leopards early, going on a 23-0 run in the first half to take control for good. DaShawn Richmond (Jr., Staten Island, N.Y., Broward CC) led the way with a career-high 22 points off the bench including an 8-of-11 performance from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point range. The Roadrunners enjoyed one of their best offensive nights of the season shooting 54% from the field and 52% from three-point range.
The Aggies are coming off a 91-54 loss to South Carolina on December 30 and have lost 12 of their last 13 games. They snapped an 11-game losing streak with a 58-54 win over Division III NC Wesleyan on Dec. 28. North Carolina A&T has yet to defeat a Division I program this season with their other victory coming against Greensboro College, another NCAA Division III program to open the season.
Bakersfield continues to be the best defensive squad in the Western Athletic Conference allowing a league-low 59.6 ppg this season. The 'Runners are also holding opponents to a conference-low 39% shooting from the field as well while Kevin Mays (Jr., Queens, N.Y., Odessa CC) leads the league in both rebounding (8.4 rpg) and offensive rebounding (3.6 rpg).
Saturday's game can be heard live on Newstalk 1180 and 96.1 FM KERN beginning at 3:30 P.M. (PT) with the Dignity Health Pregame Show.
