BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- The CSUB Roadrunners take a break from Western Athletic Conference action Tuesday night hosting San Diego Christian in a non-conference game at the Icardo Center.
The Hawks are an NAIA program out of the Golden State Athletic Conference; the Roadrunners are the seventh NCAA Division I opponent this season for San Diego Christian. They are 5-11 on the season.
The Roadrunners (6-14, 2-3 WAC) enter on the heels of a weekend split in the Midwest as CSUB defeated Chicago State 57-41 on Saturday. It was the lowest point total allowed by the Roadrunners against an NCAA Division I opponent. CSUB also held the Cougars to 27% shooting from the field and 22% from three-point range in the win.
Bakersfield is led by Aly Ahmed (Jr., Alexandria, Egypt, Midland CC) who is averaging 14 ppg and shooting over 50% from the field. Ahmed scored 13 points along with eight rebounds in Saturday's win. Tyrell Corbin (Sr., Columbia, S.C., Salt Lake City CC) also scored 13 with eight rebounds in CSUB's victory. Corbin scored 29 points combined in the last two games for the Roadrunners.
Senior forward Peter Beale-Wirsing leads the Hawks with 12 ppg while junior guard Daniel Nielson is adding 11 points per contest.
Kevin Mays (Jr., Queens, N.Y., Odessa CC) leads the Roadrunners and the Western Athletic Conference in rebounding with eight per game. He's also the only player in the WAC with seven double-digit rebounding performances this season.
The 'Runners as a team are now allowing a conference-low 61 ppg and holding their opponents to a WAC-low 39.8% shooting from the field as well.
