KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Following their first Western Athletic Conference win of the 2015 season, the CSUB Roadrunners (5-13, 1-2 WAC) will head out for their second conference road trip this week traveling to Missouri-Kansas City (6-12, 1-1 WAC) on Thursday night and Chicago State (4-15, 0-2 WAC) on Saturday afternoon.
The Roadrunners are coming off a 66-53 win over UT Pan American Saturday night following a 70-54 loss last Thursday to NM State. The 'Runners shot 50% in the first half in Saturday's contest and relied on defense and timely shooting in the second half to hold off a late charge from the Broncs who made it a five-point game with just over three minutes to play before the Roadrunners scored on six consecutive free throws to pull away for good.
Javonte Maynor (R-Sr., Atlanta, Ga., Georgia State) led the 'Runners with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting while Aly Ahmed (Jr., Alexandria, Egypt, Midland CC) scored in double figures in his second game back from injury added 14 points while Kevin Mays (Jr., Queens, N.Y., Odessa CC) added 12 points and recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds.
Ahmed continues to lead CSUB with 14 points and a team second-best 7 rebounds.
Missouri-Kansas City is coming off a 64-62 win over Chicago State in the lone conference game for both teams as Martez Harrison paced the Kangaroos with 24 points on 5-of-14 shooting and 4-of-8 from three point range. Harrison is the lone 'Roo averaging in double figures with his 18 ppg. He's shooting 40% from the field and 30% from three-point range.
The win over Chicago State snapped a four-game losing streak for UMKC who had also lost five of their last six entering the contest.
Chicago State was led by forward Clarke Rosenberg who scored 13 points while Trayvon Palmer and Anthony Glover each added 11 points in the loss.
The Cougars are led by Rosenberg's 12 ppg while Palmer is added eight per contest for Chicago State who enters having lost both of their first two conference games by a combined seven points. Chicago State has lost four straight and will take on Seattle Thursday night before hosting the Roadrunners on Saturday.
Thursday's game against UMKC will tip off at 7 P.M. (CT) from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City and is available on ESPN3.com, the first appearance for CSUB on the online network this season. That game will also be available on ESPN 1230 beginning with the Dignity Health Pregame Show at 4:30 PM (PT).
Saturday's game at Chicago State will tip off at 2 P.M. (CT) and will be available on the WAC Digital Network and on Newstalk 1180 AM and 96.1 FM KERN beginning at 11:30 A.M. (PT)
