BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team (10-3) travels to Cal Poly for a Saturday matchup that gets underway at 2 p.m.
Cal Poly dropped to 4-7 after losing 65-63 to Colorado State Dec. 21. The Mustangs have lost four in a row entering Saturday's CSUB game. Cal Poly guard Ariana Elegado made 15 three-pointers over the last three Cal Poly games, upping her school-record count of career 3-pointers to 204. The total ranks No. 10 in Big West Conference history.
CSUB and Cal Poly are playing for the ninth time with the Mustangs leading the all-time series 5-3. Cal Poly has won three in a row in the series including a 63-54 decision last season in San Luis Obispo.
The Roadrunners enter Saturday's game on a three-game winning streak after defeating LIU Brooklyn 84-53 Tuesday night. Tyonna Outland (R-Sr., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) scored 22 of her game high 26 points in the second half, scoring 16 of 18 'Runner points in one stretch. CSUB opened the second half on a 23-5 run, outscoring the Blackbirds 36-8 at one point, and held LIU to just six field goals (in 30 attempts) in the half.
Outland has now scored 1,689 points. She is 107 points away from the career leader at
CSU Bakersfield, Katie McElree (1,796, 2002-06). Batabe Zempare (Jr., Accra, Ghana, Scottsdale Chapparal HS) has recorded four consecutive double-doubles entering Saturday's action. Zempare continues to climb the CSUB career rebounding ladder is second in school history (first at Division I level) with 624 career rebounds. Heather Garay (2001-03) is the all-time leading rebounder for the Roadrunners with 683.
