Box Score 2 DAYTON, Ohio--Bakersfield dropped a pair of matches at the Flyer-Raider Invitational volleyball tournament on Friday.
The Roadrunners opened the day at the University of Dayton and dropped a 3-0 decision to IPFW. The Mastodons won the first two sets (25-23, 25-23). IPFW rallied from 24-21 down in the third set to defeat the Roadrunners 26-24 to earn the sweep. Fort Wayne limited the 'Runners to .165 hitting for the match. Three players had eight kills for CSUB. Luiza Martins (Jr., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Western Nebraska CC) charted 29 assists. Mariah Alvidrez (R-Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) tallied 13 digs.
In the nightcap, Bakersfield dropped the first two sets to Bowling Green 25-23, 25-14 before edging out the Falcons 27-25 in the third set. CSUB sent the match to the fifth and deciding set with a 25-17 victory in set number four.
Bowling Green jumped out to advantages of 4-1 and 8-3 in set five. The Roadrunners cut the lead to 8-5 before the Falcons scored the next two points. At 11-6, Bowling Green rattled off four of the next five points, putting away the match 15-7.
Kelsee Sawyer (Jr., Temecula, Calif., Great Oak HS) led all players with 16 kills. She also added nine digs. Molly O'Hagan (Sr., Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonganoxie HS) posted 14 kills and nine blocks. Martins dished out 47 assists. Alvidrez added 21 digs. Sara Little (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) recorded a career high 11 digs and had five kills.
The Roadrunners face No. 12 Nebraska to begin play on Saturday at 11 a.m. (EDT). The tournament concludes for CSUB Saturday night against Dayton at 8 p.m. (EDT).
