Box Score 2 BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Danika Youngblood (Sr., Salt Lake City, Utah, Western Nebraska CC) recorded 40 kills in a pair of matches on Saturday as Bakersfield finished third in the Roadrunner Classic.
Oregon State defeated the 'Runners 3-1 in Saturday's opening match. The Roadrunners earned a 25-22 victory in the opening set before the Beavers tied the match with a 25-13 second set triumph. The Beavers earned back-to-back 25-23 wins in sets three and four to earn the match victory.
Youngblood reset her career high for kills with 22 and posted her third consecutive double-double with 10 digs. Youngblood also added three assists. Kelsee Sawyer (Sr., Temecula, Calif., Great Oak HS) had 18 kills. CSUB setter Luiza Martins (Jr., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Western Nebraska CC) posted 46 assists, nine digs, and three kills.
'Runner libero Mariah Alvidrez (R-Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) went for 20 digs, marking the sixth time in the first 12 matches this season she had at least 20 digs in a match. Redshirt sophomore Sophie Flemion (San Simeon, Calif., Coast Union HS) tallied a career high 12 digs.
In the tournament finale, Bakersfield swept Fresno State (25-16, 25-20, 25-20) to take third place. Youngblood hit .368 and again had a double-double of 18 kills and 10 digs. Molly O'Hagan (Sr., Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonganoxie HS) and Sawyer each charted 11 kills. Alvidrez posted 19 digs while Martins dished out 43 assists.
Oregon State took home the tournament title when the Beavers, who went 3-0, defeated Long Beach State 3-2 in the middle match of Saturday's play. The Beach was 2-1 during the meet.
Youngblood was selected to the All-Tournament team. For the weekend, the 5-7 outside hitter recorded 59 kills (5.36 per game), hit .368 (59-16-124), and had 30 digs.
The Roadrunners (4-9) open WAC play Thursday night at Texas-Pan American. First serve is set for 7 p.m. (CDT).
