BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--No. 1 UCLA (21-2, 3-0 MPSF) defeated Bakersfield (12-18, 0-4 MPSF) in water polo action Saturday afternoon.

Playing at home for the first time this season, the Roadrunners saw the Bruins score the first 10 goals of the game before Bridgette Souza (R-Jr., La Jolla, Calif., Sonoma State) got the 'Runners on the board at the 6:27 mark of the third quarter.

Bakersfield outscored UCLA 8-6 in the second half, scoring four of their final five goals on 6-on-5 chances. Souza, Kristen Jensen (Fr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Los Osos HS), and Niki De Leon (So., Montebello, Calif., Montebello HS) each scored three times. UCLA outshot CSUB 34-25 as 'Runner goalie Courtney Wahlstrom (Fr., Palm Desert, Calif., Palm Desert HS) made 14 saves.

"We have to start stronger," said Bakersfield head coach Jason Gall. "We've played enough games against these teams that we should able to get on the scoreboard in the first half. Our second half was great. We beat them 8-6 in those two quarters. If we can learn to start games that way, we'll be OK."

The Roadrunners host the other team ranked No. 1 this week, Stanford, next Saturday at 1 p.m.
