AZUSA, Calif.-- The Bakersfield men's and women's track team took on the Bryan Clay Invitational this week in the team's second to last meet before the WAC Championships.
Women
The women's 4 x 400m relay team of Marina Emhoff (RFr., Bakersfield, Calif., North HS), Ariana Mariscal (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., North HS), Erica Wilcox (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS), and Alyssa Page (Jr., Santa Rosa, Calif., Montogomery HS) put together a great performance with a third-place finish on Friday evening. The quartet's time of 3:53.17 was good enough for third and placed the 'Runners ahead of the team from Kansas City, whose women's team took second in team scoring at the 2014 WAC Indoor Championships. The 'Runners were able to lower their season's best time in the event and squeaked their way on to Bakersfield's All-Time Top 20 list in the event by a mere seven hundredths of a second.
Page improved her best time of the season in the 400m as she crossed the finish line in 57.19. The 12th-place finish led five 'Runners in the event while Mariscal came in 23rd place of 61 runners (58.23). Fellow sprinter Dominique Alexander (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., South HS) ran well in both the 100m and 200m dashes, posting her second best time of the season in each event.
Men
Gabe Holland (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska, Univ. of Alaska) led the 'Runners with two solid performances on the week. The senior thrower put up a strong distance of 174-08 in Thursday's hammer competition which was good enough for second in his flight and 13th overall in a 54-athlete field. The throw improved Holland's 2014 best by over three and a half feet. On Friday, Holland would again better his season's best toss in the discus, his better event, with a distance of 155-06. The throw was good enough for third in a pool of 55 throwers.
Richard Maestre (RJr., Bakersfield, Calif., South HS) has improved his time in the 400m hurdles each of the last three meets as the Bakersfield native brought his season's best time down again on Friday to 54.86.
Bakersfield will head to the Fresno State Bulldog Invitational next weekend before participating in the WAC Outdoor Championships in May. The meet in Fresno will take place on Saturday as the 'Runners will compete in events all day long.
