BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--No. 1 Stanford (19-1, 5-0 MPSF) defeated Bakersfield (12-19, 0-5 MPSF) 19-6 in MPSF water polo action Saturday afternoon at the Hillman Aquatics Complex.

The Cardinal connected on eight of their first 12 shots and led 11-0 before Janelle Shelby (Jr., San Diego, Calif., Grossmont HS) got the 'Runners on the board with 2:32 to play in the second quarter. Kiley Neushul scored all six of her goals in the first half.

Kristen Jensen (Fr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Los Osos HS) recorded a hat trick in the second half for the Roadrunners. Shelby added a second goal in the fourth quarter as did Niki De Leon (So., Montebello, Calif., Montebello HS). Kaley Dodson posted a hat trick. Three other Cardinal players each scored two goals.

"Again we won the fourth quarter against a great team, but it was too little, too late," said Bakersfield head coach Jason Gall. "We have to convert some shots early in the game. We had some good looks. We just need to be confident with our attempts. Courtney made some great saves today and Kristen had seom great steals in the fourth quarter to get us going offensively. That needs to be happening from the get go."

Bakersfield closes the regular season next Friday when CSUB hosts San Jose State at 3 p.m.
