Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif--Bakersfield overcame a poor shooting performance to defeat Utah Valley 66-51 in the WAC regular season women's basketball finale for both schools.
The Roadrunners shot just 33.8% from the field (23-of-68) and only made eight of 36 three-point attempts on the day (22.2%). However, the 'Runners forced 26 Utah Valley turnovers which were converted into 24 CSUB points (compared to nine Bakersfield turnovers which went for four points).
Melissa Sweat (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Southern Oregon) led the 'Runners with 13 points and eight rebounds. Tyonna Outland (R-Jr., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) scored 12 points and eight rebounds.
The teams will meet again Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas. Bakersfield (18-10, 12-4 WAC) is the No. 2 seed while the Wolverines (7-22, 4-12 WAC) are the seventh seed. Tip is set for 8:30 p.m. in the Orleans Arena.
